The National Consumer Panel (NCP) acts in an advisory capacity for the At Home/Chez Soi project. The NCP provides a national perspective from people with lived experience in mental health issues and homelessness and represents peer interests related to the project.

The NCP was formed in the summer of 2009 and meets monthly to address both national and local issues that develop within the project.  Members share expertise and discuss developments that relate to research, housing, service provision, as well as peer and consumer involvement in the project. They respond to inquiries from various interest groups, and work to make sure that the project remains grounded in and relevant to people with lived experience.

NCP members include a variety of consumers in all five project sites. They include Local Advisory Committee members, peer interviewers, peer support workers, and peer organizers and consultants. The panel is chaired by a peer facilitator.

  • The NCP has provided significant advice and input in the development of the project’s media-related documents and procedures that are mindful of the particular issues that people with lived experience face when speaking publicly.

  • The NCP is working to provide proactive information and guidance in an effort to optimize the use of peer knowledge within the project. Topics include stigma and other issues peers can face when working in peer positions
