You are invited to join Partners for Mental Health - a grass roots advocacy movement committed to repositioning mental health on the national agenda.
Partners for Mental Health is a national social movement focused on redefining what it means to have a mental illness using the voices and actions of ordinary Canadians.
Partners for Mental Health comes to life through an annual national event promoting the power of mental well-being.
These activities will be supported using web-based social media to create an online community of communities that will advocate for profound change in the policies, programs and supports that exist for mental health and mental illness; it also challenges beliefs we have held about mental illness as individuals, families, communities, organizations and society.
The website will mobilize a million people to join hands in the effort to transform the way we define and respond to mental illness at home, in our community, in the workplace, and throughout the country.
WHY WE ARE DOING THIS
Every year, one in five of us experience a mental illness. The remaining four will have a friend, family member or colleague who will, but only one third of those who need mental health services in Canada actually receive them. Mental illnesses make up more than 15% of the burden of disease in Canada, but receive only 5.5% of health care dollars. These trends indicate that without massive change, issues of mental illness and mental health will not receive the attention they deserve.
Vision: A nation in which our people experience the best possible mental health as a result of policies, practices and programs that reflect Canada’s outstanding commitment to our well-being.
Mission: A national social movement of people living throughout Canada dedicated to successfully evolving the way we as a nation embrace and respond to our human condition related to mental illness, mental issues and mental well-being.
Five Year Goal: One million Canadians actively engaged in standing for & realizing fundamental changes in mental health policy, practices and programs that change the way all Canadians think, believe and act in regards to mental health.
It’s time we take a stand. Our actions will challenge the beliefs that have kept mental health, illness and issues in the shadows. It’s time to come together to move into the light and achieve our potential as a nation.
