Who Can Apply?
Canadians working in the field of mental health, substance use or addictions, broadly defined to include multiple sectors (e.g health, justice, education). The SPARK Training Institute is committed to diversity. As such, applications from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples; members of a visible minority group; family caregivers; and those who have lived experience of a mental health problem or a mental illness are welcomed and encouraged to apply. The SPARK Training Institute will strive to achieve an equal level of participation from the following areas:
- Research
Individuals who have actively contributed to the research enterprise, as evidenced by peer-reviewed research grants and/or publications. This includes researchers who are affiliated with an academic institution, NGOs, government, or other organizations with research as part of their mission.
- Practice
Individuals in the public health or clinical practice communities who manage and/or provide direct public health or clinical services to populations and/or individuals. Practitioners can represent NGOs, government, or other organizations with demonstrated knowledge and skill.
- Policy
Individuals who are involved in creating or influence policy decisions (both inside of government or those working for NGO’S and community based organizations).
Application requirements
Each potential fellow must address all sections on the application form to the best of their ability. The application should clearly demonstrate what each fellow is hoping to achieve by attending the Institute, and how that knowledge will impact the work they do. Each potential fellow must also complete a one-page proposal on an idea or product for which they want to develop a knowledge exchange plan, including an outline of how the plan will be implemented upon their return from the Institute.
Guidelines for Application Submission
- Each fellow may submit only one application;
- Submissions MUST NOT exceed three pages; only the fillable PDF application document and proposal document (below) will be considered by the review panel. Please note that Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 or greater is required to view and download the documents;
- Keep a copy of your application submission for your records;

Deadline for Applications
All applications must be submitted by midnight (Eastern Time) on Friday, February 24th, 2012.
All applications received after this date will not be accepted. All applicants who submit their application prior to the deadline will receive confirmation of their submission.
