The Mental Health Commission of Canada (the Commission) and the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction are seeking proposals from qualified organizations to support the development of guidance for the use of AI in mental health and substance use health (MHSUH) in Canada.
This project draws on prior work, including an environmental scan, a literature review, and collaborator engagement that informed, validated and refined key considerations for the safe, ethical, high-quality, and human-centred use of AI in MHSUH care. This phase will focus on translating these considerations into practical, implementable guidance.
This RFP is open only to Canadian organizations and individuals. Consultants must be based in Canada (with data stored in Canada) and demonstrate knowledge of the Canadian MHSUH landscape. This requirement reflects the need for alignment with Canadian legislation, health systems, and policy environments.
Submissions are due May 29, 2026
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (The Commission), in partnership with the Organization for the Review of Care and Health Apps (ORCHA), has developed an Assessment Framework for Mental Health Applications (apps). This framework promotes the adoption of safe, effective, and culturally relevant mental health apps in Canada.
This RFP invites submissions from developers of mental health apps interested in participating in the Commission Mental Health App Assessment process.
This call is particularly aimed at smaller or emerging apps that may not otherwise have the resources to afford the assessment cost, as well as those designed to support underserved or vulnerable populations, including Indigenous communities, youth, newcomers, and individuals experiencing socioeconomic disadvantages. The Commission is committed to promoting equity, innovation, and safety in digital mental health, and this opportunity reflects our focus on increasing access to quality-assured tools for those who need them most.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada is seeking to recruit two new Board Members. These appointments represent an opportunity to contribute to one of Canada’s most important national organizations advancing mental health for all.
The MHCC is currently seeking candidates for two distinct roles:
Youth Director – A youth leader who has a deep connection to the Commission’s mission and brings direct work or lived experience in mental health. As one of the Board’s two designated youth members, this individual will provide an important perspective at the Board table, helping ensure that youth voices and experiences inform the organization’s national work.
Business & Technology Leader – MHCC is also seeking a seasoned business leader with a strong foundation in technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, business development, and corporate governance. This director will bring valuable, board and executive level (CEO, EVP, SVP) insight into the evolving digital landscape and marketplace and help guide MHCC as it continues to innovate and expand its impact.
These roles offer a meaningful opportunity for individuals who care deeply about the mental health of all people living in Canada and wish to contribute to national dialogue, support innovation and best practices, reduce stigma, and increase mental health literacy and action across the country.
For this round of recruitment, MHCC is particularly interested in strengthening regional representation from Northern Canada, the Prairies, and Western Canada. The Commission also welcomes expressions of interest from Métis and Inuit leaders and professionals as well as exceptional leaders from within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who are interested in contributing their expertise to the Board’s work.
If you are interested in learning more, or if someone in your network would be a strong candidate, we would welcome the opportunity to connect. Referrals and nominations are encouraged.
Please feel free to reach out directly (mnaufal@boyden.com and myoung@boyden.com) or share this opportunity with individuals who may wish to contribute to this important mission.
