Vancouver, B.C. — “The Mental Health Commission of Canada was proud to host more than 350 mental health leaders from eight countries who came together this week in Vancouver for the 2015 combined International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership and International Initiative for Disability Leadership to share promising practices, discuss innovative approaches and learn from each other.
The knowledge shared and global connections created during this incredible leadership exchange was immensely valuable and will ultimately help improve the wellbeing of people with lived mental health experience across Canada and around the world. We thank all participants for their contributions to an extremely successful event.
As the Commission continues its mandate to accelerate improvements to improve Canada’s mental health system, we are committed to collaborating closely with our international partners and seeking guidance and inspiration from their achievements.
We are already looking forward to continuing the conversation at the 2017 International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership, which will be hosted by our partners at the New South Wales Mental Health Commission.”
ABOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH COMMISSION OF CANADA
Guided by Changing Directions, Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a catalyst for improving the mental health system and changing the attitudes and behaviours of Canadians around mental health – at home, work, and school, as well as with the media and healthcare providers – from coast to coast to coast. Through its unique mandate from Health Canada, the Commission is Canada’s coordinating agent, bringing together the best and most influential minds in the mental health community. The MHCC is collaborating with hundreds of partners towards a mental health system that is inclusive, adaptable, and supports Canadians living with mental health problems and mental illnesses in their recovery journey. Together we accelerate change needed to transform Canada’s mental health system and the wellbeing of all.
