On behalf of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, congratulations to the Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, Ginette Petitpas-Taylor, on her appointment as the new federal Minister of Health.

Minister Petipas-Taylor has a longstanding history of championing social issues, including her valuable input with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Suicide Prevention Committee in her home province of New Brunswick.

I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Minister Jane Philpott for her work as Health Minister during which time she forged a new cooperative path forward on mental health and homecare through new agreements with all provinces and territories. The Commission looks forward to collaborating with her further in her new role as Minister of Indigenous Services.

The MHCC welcomes the opportunity to work with Minister Petipas-Taylor to help improve the mental health and well-being of all people living in Canada, and to create a mental health system that can truly meet the needs of people living with mental health problems and illnesses and their families.
