Mixed Methods Research - Identify Barriers and Facilitators to Support for Psychological Self-Care and Protection from Moral Distress for Health-Care Workers
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is seeking a contractor to complete a literature review, stakeholder map, key-informant interviews, and a national survey. The purpose of this work is to identify common barriers and facilitators for Canada’s health-care workers, health-care teams, and health-care organizations to address in health-care settings: (1) support for psychological self-care, and (2) protection from moral distress. The review and findings would also need to account for added stressors stemming from the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The MHCC made a commitment to implement the National Standard on Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace since its release in 2013. To guide this work, the Commission developed a Wellness Framework, a systematic approach with the purpose of continuously improving upon psychological health and safety within the organization.
The MHCC is tremendously proud to have been awarded the “Order of Excellence Status” in Excellence Canada’s Mental Health at Work Program. The MHCC is one of the first organizations to achieve this recognition, which was formally awarded on November 9, 2017 at the 33rd Annual Canada Awards for Excellence. This achievement represents compliance with the Progressive Excellence Program (PEP), a four-level program that serves as a roadmap for organizations implementing the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (Standard). Excellence Canada has the distinction of being the only organization to certify employers for meeting requirements laid out in the Standard.
The MHCC began our journey with Excellence Canada in 2013, when we first applied and successfully achieved “Level 2” certification in the Mental Health At Work Category. Year over year, through our ongoing commitment to the mental health and wellness of our employees, we have been able to improve our ranking with Excellence Canada, culminating with the Order of Excellence.
